HyGuard NetiSafe
|
As a parent and someone who uses the Internet as part of their work, I'm very concerned with the wide
variety of content available on the Internet. As a parent, I'm concerned that my kids might
come across something - or someone - they're not prepared (mentally, emotionally, or level-of-maturity)
to handle on their own. As a computer industry professional, I'm concerned with the increasing quantity
of both overt attacks (hacking/cracking) and the more subtle (but no less benign) inefficiencies caused
by spyware, spam, and non-work-related "entertainment" content available on the Internet.
To combat these concerns, I began development of an Internet Content Filtering system in January 2005.
This system was (pre)released to our first customer just one month later and version 1.0 was made available
in June to several other customers. The product received it's name and active marketing and sales of
NetiSafe began with the
release of version 2.0 in September 2005. For more information, please check out the
HyGuard website at

Gateway Guardian
|
For about 8 years now, I've been heavily involved with the design, development, and production of the
Gateway Guardian Operating System.
Gateway Guardian is based on the Linux operating system kernel and has been built from the ground up
as a highly specialized, highly secure operating system capable of being embedded into a wide variety
of devices - including the NetMaster SecurityBlade - a fully functional firewall
and network security device the size of a PCI card.
As the lead software developer working on Gateway Guardian, I have learned a great deal about the
inner workings of Linux, Internet security issues, Internet services such as web, mail, dns, routing,
firewalling, etc., and other advanced features such as bandwidth management, virtual private networks
(encryption and authentication), application proxies, and more.

Protecting our Online Children
|
In the fall of 2002, I was asked to make a presentation to a church group who were having (well founded) concerns
regarding the risks associated with their children having full, unfettered access to the Internet.
The handout provided during the presentation, while a bit outdated now, is available
here.
Feel free to download and forward to anyone caring to know more about how to protect their children while they're
online, "surfing the Internet". While I retain the copyright to this document, please copy/email/print and
distribute to anyone you feel might find it useful or informative.
Protecting our children while they're online has always been a significant concern of mine - I have three young
children of my own. Therefore, if you have any questions, or would like additional information, please don't
hesitate to
contact me.

Keepin' Track HelpDesk Software
|
While employed at Merilus, Inc. I single-handedly designed, developed, and implemented a comprehensive, multi-user,
web-based Help Desk application on my own time.
Written in PHP
and using PostgreSQL
as the database, this application handled all Technical Support and Customer Service calls for Merilus and is now
actively being used by both NetMaster Digital Security and HyGuard Network Services.
Over the past 5 years since it began active service, this application has handled as many as 6 simultaneous users
querying and posting data for hundreds of customers, thousands of trouble tickets, and tens of thousands of transactions
regarding those trouble tickets.
My intention is to someday release this application under the GPL as a project hosted on SourceForge. I know there
is a lot of functionality that can still be added to it but, unfortunately, I've long since lost the time (and energy)
to continue devoting time to it. (And, besides, it currently does everything I need it to, so... with "no itches to
scratch", it gets left alone.... ;-) Hopefully, once released onto SourceForge, others will also find this application
useful and/or will be able to assist in continuing it's development.

WhereHaveIBeen.COM ?
|
Have you ever wondered where the money in your wallet has been before you got it? Or where those bills
will go after you spend them? Check out www.WhereHaveIBeen.com for more information!
WhereHaveIBeen.com was a project started by myself and a close friend, Glenn Howard, as a fun and exciting
way to discover the travel patterns of paper money throughout the world.
This website is 100% dynamic (every page us uniquely built and presented to you in real-time) and was
written using the PHP programming language and the PostgreSQL database management system. This site is
currently averaging anywhere from 250,000 to 500,000 unique page views every month.
That's a lot of visitors! ;-)
